Detailed Description

Detailed Description

The 760p and Pro 7600p have a SubNQN(Subsystem NVMe Qualified Name) conflict in the 004C and 004P FW respectively. This conflict could cause systems to drop drives (i.e., the OS will not enumerate the drive as attached to the system).

The SubNQN is set to a non-zero default value in the 004 FW, and it is not unique per drive. If a system has multiple drives and checks the SubNQN for unique value to identify each individual drive, then the system will have a conflict with multiple 760p or Pro 7600p SSDs showing the same value. The system may halt operation or drop duplicate drives. This system behavior has only been seen on Linux kernels that are employing a new patch that checks the uniqueness of the SubNQN. The patch can be found here:

https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9957773/

The patch has been found integrated into the Linux* 14.8.x kernel, but may be ported to other kernels.

On a 760p or Pro 7600p SSD with 004 FW, the tool will change the SubNQN string from the non-zero default value to a zero (0x0) value. The zero value in the SubNQN field is recognized as a non-relevant value, and as such, a dummy SubNQN value will be assigned by system.

The firmware name will be changed so user has visibility that the fix is applied.

Update your Intel® SSD with the solution firmware

The following steps detail how to utilize the iRMFUU.exe to change the firmware for:

Intel® SSD 760p Series drive from firmware version 004C to 004X

Intel® SSD Pro 7600p Series drive from firmware version 004P to 004Y

Notes:

  • Before initiating the iRMFUU, read all the instructions below. The firmware update process is done entirely at your own risk.
  • Before attempting the firmware update, back up or make copies of your files. If the Intel SSD Firmware update process is interrupted, your Intel® SSD may not function properly.
  • If you purchased your Intel® SSD from an OEM, your firmware version may have a different naming. Contact your local OEM representative for latest firmware revisions.
  • If you are experiencing issues with updating your firmware, contact Intel Customer Support.

After downloading the iRMFUU package, copy/unzip the files and make note of the location, then proceed with the following steps.

Process steps for Linux

  1. Open a terminal
  2. Change the directory to the IRMFUU directory that was created when you copied/unzipped the tool.
  3. Set the execution bit on the iRMFUU executable
    • This can be done by running the command “chmod a+x irmfuu_7.1.3_xx”.  xx = 32/64 depending on the version

  4. As root, run the tool (sudo). For example: “sudo ./irmfuu_7.1.3_xx”.  xx = 32/64 depending on the version
    • Tool will detect all supported drives related to this process and automatically perform the update.
    • When the process is complete you should see a “Status: Firmware Updated Successfully. Please reboot the system.” message.

  5. To verify the new firmware on your drive, run the tool executable, as root, with the following arguments: irmfuu_7.1.3 show –intelssd
